Rodents, mosquitoes, cockroaches …. these annoying pests are an unfortunate part of life for many Arkansans. Our vast natural landscape combined with mild winters make our state a perfect place for many pests to thrive – not to mention your cozy home is an air-conditioned buffet! But don’t let pests get you down, learn more about ants and other pest species and how to prevent them – including which might be dangerous!
Insects
One of the most diverse and widespread groups of organisms on the planet, insects inhabit just about every environment – including your home. While many are perfectly harmless, environmentally beneficial and in fact beautiful (butterflies, anyone?), some insects are simply pests! Whether they damage structures (termites), carry disease (mosquitoes) or just invade your home (ants), these insects are an unwanted addition to your home or office building.
Mammals
Yes it’s true – some mammals are even classified as pest species. Although we tend to associate the cute and cuddly with the word “mammal” (pandas, rabbits, dogs and so on), a few of our furry friends have managed to become pest species. Those that cause particular problems are rodents – rats and mice. And while some of you may consider them cute or even have one as a pet, these animals can be a very destructive and unhealthy addition to your home.
